The house was built by Abdullah bin Salim Shouaib after the year 1362 AH (1943 CE), during a time when Jeddah was still enclosed by its historic wall and beginning to undergo significant economic and social  change.

Nestled within the dense fabric of Historic Jeddah, it sits along a narrow alley among closely packed homes adorned with intricately carved wooden rawasheen that filter light while preserving privacy.

Following meticulous restoration and rehabilitation to the highest standards, it has been transformed into an artist residency, welcoming creatives to live and work within its walls.

Bayt Shouaib houses individual studios, living spaces, an exhibition hall, and a cultural café, representing a model for repurposing heritage sites that breathes new life into them without alienating their original essence.

Thus far, the house has already hosted creatives from diverse backgrounds, allowing them to directly engage with Jeddah's cultural identity. All while drawing inspiration for their own work from the district’s architectural style and the intricacies of daily life in the city.
