Goodyear Arts: Year 3

Goodyear Arts moved to Camp North End in June 2017 and will remain there through 2021 in space donated by ATCO Properties. Year three of residencies through Goodyear Arts were made possible by the Knight Foundation and Women's Impact Fund. This is a look back at our first year of residencies at our third location.

Debora Koo, Nathaniel Lancaster, Elisa Sanchez

Deb Koo Painting in her Studio (2018) by Goodyear ArtsGoodyear Arts

Deb Koo used her residency to create two new painting series. She created a found object still life as well as painted from found photographs.

Nathaniel Lancaster Painting in his Studio (2018)Goodyear Arts

Nathaniel Lancaster created new large scale oil paintings while in residence. He also explored new printmaking techniques.

2018 Artist in Residence Elisa Sanchez (2018) by Goodyear ArtsGoodyear Arts

Elisa Sanchez pushed herself to create both 2D and 3D illustrations during her residency. At the showcase, she displayed her small works in front of a large scale, site-specific wall drawing.

HNin Nie, J. Stacy Utley, Liliya Zalevskaya

HNin Nie in Residence at Goodyear Arts (2018) by Goodyear ArtsGoodyear Arts

HNin Nie used her time in residence to further explore her character Negative Nancy. Nie created new paintings, illustrations, and a large scale paper mache head that the audience could walk inside.

J. Stacy Utley used his residency to reflect on the process and affects of gentrification. His mixed media pieces included monopoly houses to emphasize his ideas.

Liliya Zalevskaya used mixed media printmaking and sewing techniques to create large scale banners. These banners reflected on themes of home and immigration.

Justin Evans Performs at Residency Showcase (2018) by Goodyear ArtsGoodyear Arts

Resident artist Justin Evans composed a poem to be performed by five readers at the same time. The cacophony of sound became purposely overwhelming as the readers voices became indistinct.

Jason Watson is a mixed media artist whose work is rooted in illustration. While in residence, Watson created a new series of illustrated heads which were installed hanging from coat racks in the gallery.

Barbara Schreiber used her residency to focus on the creation of multiples. Her tiny paintings repeat imagery, but no two are the same.

2018 Research Residents

In 2018, Goodyear Arts granted four research residencies. These one month residencies were created to provide support to artists who were exploring media/techniques outside of their regular practice. 

Nelly Kate Anderson in Residence at Goodyear Arts (2018) by Goodyear ArtsGoodyear Arts

During her research residency, Nelly Kate explore themes of deafness and erasure.

Sarah Terry Argabrite in her Studio (2018) by Goodyear ArtsGoodyear Arts

Sarah Terry Argabrite used her residency to combine her mixed media work and her textile work. She created several artworks that dealt with mental health and being medicated.

Chad Cartwright in his Studio at Goodyear Arts (2018) by Goodyear ArtsGoodyear Arts

Chad Cartwright spent his research residency exploring new techniques for combining his text based work and his photographic work.
