Glass swaying in the wind

1895 Giuseppe Barovier

This glass was made experimentally by “Artisti Brovier”, that was the artist group formed as leader Giuseppe Barovier. It is the first example adopted “Art Nouveau style” in Venetian glass at the end of the 19th century.

Because long and slender leg like a stalk of the plant is supporting a large disk-shaped body, the glass is swaying even by a slight breeze. It was exhibited in the 1st Venice Biennale in 1895, as a glass of miracle that made full use of wonders of technique to break the common sense of glass crafts, and drew a great deal of attention from all over the world.
