WONDERWALLS: SHINING THE SPOTLIGHT ON WOMEN STREET ARTISTS

The Women’s Forum Street Art Project shows how much we’re missing if we believe street art to be the exclusive province of men. Ten women street artists from around the globe take part and contribute artwork on theme "She's a Leader”.

"“I first started playing around with spray cans when I was still in high school, but I really began to move around in the streets in Athens where I was doing my year abroad. I first used acrylics, but once I found out how much faster and cheaper spray cans were, I quickly switched over.”"

"“I simply pick up my cans and look for a wall when I feel I have something that I need to say. Art for me, like any other form of communication, comes straight from that feeling.”"

"“The woman who most influenced my life is my mum. What she claims in the drawing means: “babe, find a boyfriend who irons for you” but actually she's ironing herself. My work is dedicated to the whole generation of spanish women who raised their children with the ghost of the dictatorship still on their shoulders, but at the same time aiming for a better future. Somewhere between an emancipated woman and an oppressed one.”"

"“I hope that gender in street art will no longer be something that awakes curiosity or special interest, just mere irrelevance.”
