Abashiri Municipal Museum

This museum opened in 1936 and is one of the early museums in Hokkaido.

Based on the archaeological and ethnographic materials collected by Kioe Yonemura, we are currently exhibiting various materials that introduce the nature, history, and culture of Abashiri.

It was designed by Yoshiya Tanoue, who studied under Frank Lloyd Wright.You can see characteristic elements inside and outside the building, such as the red domed roof, stained glass and spiral staircase.
