OCA – Asian Pacific American Advocates, Greater Cleveland chapter is a membership-driven non-profit, organization of community advocates dedicated to advancing the social, political, and economic well-being of Asia.

The local chapter was founded in 1983 as the Organization of Chinese Americans Northeast Ohio chapter but merged with the Chinese Association of Greater Cleveland in 1995 to form the Organization of Chinese Americans of Greater Cleveland. In 2013, the organization became OCA Greater Cleveland – Asian Pacific American Advocates in a nationwide re-branding of the organization.

Founded as the Organization of Chinese Americans (美華協會) in 1973, OCA has grown to be a robust national advocacy organization to advance the civil rights of Asian Pacific Americans and aspiring Americans. In 2013, to reflect OCA’s initiative of diversity and inclusion re-branded as OCA – Asian Pacific American Advocates. To fulfill its mission, OCA has established the following goals:* to advocate for social justice, equal opportunity, and fair treatment.

The documentary is a living oral history to tell the stories of Chinese Americans living in Cleveland since 150+ years ago.

Volunteering

As it is an important thing to be represented, OCA Greater Cleveland let a volunteer group that raised advocacy for the census in Cleveland. 

This was primarily focused in Cleveland Asia Town, as they wanted to ensure representation of Asians in Cleveland.

Stop Asian Hate

OCA has always been an advocate for the community and with the rise of Asian hate and crime, OCA has many initiatives to support its community; most recently a project that offers free whistles to community members as a symbol of protection, solidarity, and safety.
