Summmer’18
Pera Museum’s Summmer'18 exhibition highlights the creative world of children participating in this year’s summer workshops inspired by Istanbul’s Seaside Leisure and Shaken Image exhibitions. The outcomes from all workshops will be presented as a digital exhibition and a selected wide range will also be on view in the workshop gallery space between the dates 15 August-30 September 2018. In these workshops, children discover arts and crafts with the inspiration drawn from Pera Museum’s temporary exhibitions.
Geared towards children between 4 to 12, the workshops involved working with organic and recycled materials, plexiglass, porcelain and colorful cardboard to create objects.

Dinosaurs Alive! workshop for ages 7-12 by Ali KarakayaPera Museum
Dinosaurs, extinct for millions of years, are known to have been the strongest animals on earth! We talked about the eating habits of human beings and dinosaurs, the differences in our lifestyles and the conditions they would be in if dinosaurs were still living in the present. We created our own dinosaur sculptures from recycled materials.

My Stack of Plates workshop for ages 7-12 by İdil TüysüzyanPera Museum
What do we like doing at home? Sleeping, reading, drawing, playing games on the tablet, eating, watching cartoons, spending time with our family… We drew our favorite home activities on plates of various sizes and shapes and we put them together. This way, we expressed our life at home in on a stack of plates!
Giant Buildings workshop for ages 7-12 by Duru DirikPera Museum
What do we feel when we look at high buildings? And what do we feel when we go inside these buildings? Looking out from the top floor, would everything look tiny as an ant? Would the neighborhoods look chaotic, organized, crowded or deserted? Is there a forest or a playground in this area? We designed our dream habitat, a space environmentally sensitive.

Do we really like change? Artist Aytuna Cora says, “Change is both physical and mental.” We grabed an old head-shot of ours and compare it to our current state. We created our abstract portrait from colorful plexiglass. In this workshop, we discovered how to look at ourselves from different angles and learn to be open to new things.

Sealife Beneath My Fingers workshop for ages 4-6 by Mira SertdemirPera Museum
We imagined the living creatures of the sea and on the seashore, and we shared stories about sea creatures we came across before. In the summer when the weather is very warm, there is one very important thing we should do: avoid too much sun! Then what could be better than a hand-made hat? In this workshop, with the help of some inspiration from the animal kingdom, we worked with colorful cardboards to design our summer hats, which will protect us from the sun!
Underwater Friends workshop for ages 4-6 by Mira ÖzparlakPera Museum
As we spend time and play at the beach, what do fish do? We designed the undersea life of our imagination at the workshop; we created a seabed with cardboard, place the fish we cut out and paint on it and add the seaweed we cut out from various types of paper to create our seascape.

Sugar Tower workshop for ages 4-6 by Doğu AkdanPera Museum
In this workshop, we chose the square form and we used sugar cubes to create our masterpiece! Inspired by the work of artist Melike Şerbet, we imagined how many different buildings we can design from a single square recurring on the same plane. We put together our sugar cubes and design buildings!
