Suaad Al Suwaidi is a wildlife photographer from the United Arab Emirates. With a master’s degree in architecture and design, she has served the military and the government in management and advisory roles.

But she found her true calling as the first Emirati and Arab woman to make a mark in wildlife photography.

Suaad Al Sawaidi was introduced to her passion in her lonely days as a student in the United States. Once she befriended the camera, it remained her best friend.

She has caught many fascinating frames and sequences of wildlife from around the world, often getting very close to its dangers, too.

Wildlife photography has its own challenges. One has to know one’s gears and make rapid calculations including the lighting conditions and speed of the animal, all from a moving vehicle. “Have lots of patience and believe you are going to achieve what you are looking for."

For Suaad Al Suwaidi, the Dubai desert is a wide-open palette to be explored. “You're going to find lots of gems. You can face lots of challenges!" Al Suwaidi feels fulfilled in the wild and aims to tell the many stories out there that most people don’t get to see.

“I cannot tell you this image is special to my heart,” says Al Suwaidi, “as all of them are a piece of me…”

As a wildlife photographer, one has to make multiple calculations simultaneously – such as the light condition, speed of the animal and the direction in which one should be heading.

It is the privilege of the wildlife photographer to tell the many stories in the wild that people don't otherwise get to see.
