"Either you manage to be happy with little, without baggage, because happiness is in you or you will accomplish nothing. This is not the glorification of poverty but an apology for sobriety. But as we invented a consumer society, consumerism, the economy must grow, because if it doesn’t we believe it is a tragedy. We invented a mountain of superficial needs. We live by buying and throwing away, but what we really spend is our life time. Because when I, and you, buy something, you don’t buy it with money, you buy it with the time of your life you spend earning that money. The difference is that the only thing that cannot be bought is life. Life does nothing but flowing and what a pity using it to lose our freedom."
José Mujica, former President of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay
