In Busseto's main square
The museum is located inside the nineteenth-century residence, once owned by the patron and then father-in-law of Verdi, Antonio Barezzi (1787 - 1867) and in this place the young Giuseppe Verdi had his first musical and emotional training.

On the first floor, there is the historic Hall which was the seat of the Bussetana Philharmonic, founded by Antonio Barezzi and here Verdi performed his youthful compositions during his first public performances.

Casa Barezzi was the scene of the love between Verdi and Margherita Barezzi, daughter of Antonio, culminating in the wedding celebrated in 1836.

Verdi continued to visit Casa Barezzi until the death of his benefactor in 1867.

The Hall was reopened to the public in 1979 after a long restoration and from that moment it has resumed its original function with concerts and musical meetings thanks to the "Amici di Verdi" cultural association which has its headquarters here.

The rooms adjacent to the Salone house the museum inaugurated in 2001 during the centenary of Verdi's death: a rich collection of Verdi memorabilia, documents, letters, portraits and posters. This collection has been established and increased over time thanks to generous donations, bequests and acquisitions.
