Chicago 2019
Brigid KOSGEI started running in earnest in 2012 at the age of 18 . In 2015 she won her first marathon in Porto, in a time of 2 hours and 48 seconds. However, it was in 2019 at the Chicago Marathon that she etched her name in history. With a time of 2 hours, 14 minutes and 4 seconds, she shattered the world record previously held by Paula RADCLIFFE for 16 years.

By beating by more than a minute the world record held by Paula RADCLIFFE (GBR) since 2003, Brigid KOSGEI has achieved a phenomenal performance.
This record will be beaten in 2023 in Berlin by Ethiopian Tigst ASSEFA with a new time of 2h11'53''!
Revolutionary running shoes
It wasn't until the introduction of revolutionary technology in running shoes, such as the Vaporfly, that world records were broken. The prototypes worn by KOSGEI and KIPCHOGE, featuring three carbon plates, were eventually banned for the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2020.

Brigid KOSGEI claimed silver in the Tokyo Olympic marathon with a time of 2 hours, 27 minutes and 36 seconds, finishing just 16 seconds behind her compatriot Peres JEPCHIRCHIR (KEN).
