On 26.1.1993 Václav Havel was elected as the first-ever president of the Czech Republic. He confirmed this act by signing the oath of office.

During her visit to the Czech Republic English Queen Elizabeth II granted an unusual audience, a Boxer dog called Ďula. Václav Havel dared this ‘faux pas’ because he knew of the Queen’s predilection for keeping hunting dogs.

The paper informed about the reception of the President of the Czech Republic and his wife at a gala dinner in Buckingham Palace by English Queen Elizabeth II and her husband, the Duke of Edinburgh.
On 18.11.1989 the first big demonstration was held in Václavské náměstí under the slogan ‘We have empty hands’ after the police operation against students in Národní třída, which had taken place on 17 November 1989.
