Highest Snow-capped Mountain in Southeast Asia
It features Mt. Hkakaborazi, the highest mountain in the country and the highest snow-capped mountain in Southeast Asia. Despite several attempts, Mt. Hkakaborazi has only been summited once in 1996 due to the remoteness and difficulty of climbing the mountain.

Those who want to explore the Ayeyarwady River and its headwaters, the region’s deep forests, wildlife sanctuaries and snowcapped mountains will often start in Putao. It is the base town and gateway to the Myanmar Himalayas.

This national park is formed with mountain ranges, waterfalls, rapid streams and ravines.
It is an excellent centre for field study for students of botany, geology, zoology and geography.

Habitat Types
Evergreen forests; hill pine forests; moist upper mixed deciduous forests; contains the headwaters of Ayeyarwady, the most important river of Myanmar.

Huge rhododendron trees with a circumference of three to four metres abound in the forest.
Wildlife in Hkakaborazi National Park
• 370 species of birds
• 360 species of butterflies
• 297 species of trees
• 80 species of reptiles and amphibians
• 42 species of mammals
Recorded mammals in the park include red panda, red goral, takin, musk deer, blue sheep, black barking deer, and leaf deer or Phet-gyi.

It is also considered the perfect haven for nature lovers and those interested in wildlife.
