Created in 1959 in the United States and considered one of the most important international awards, the Grammy awards professionals in the music industry for excellence in their work.

1998

The Grammy Awards first became part of Gilberto Gil's life in the late 1990s. In 1998, Gil won his first Grammy for Best World Music Album for Quanta Gente Veio Ver (known internationally as Quanta Live).

He went on to win another Grammy in 2005, taking Best Contemporary World Music Album for Eletroacústico. In 2001, it was the turn of the Latin Grammy Awards to honor Gilberto Gil for his album As Canções de Eu Tu Eles...

In 2002, he won the same category again, this time for his live album São João Vivo. In 2003, he won the Latin Grammy Person of the Year award.

In 2010, Gil won Best Brazilian Popular Music Album at the Latin Grammy Awards for BandaDois, and he also took home the award for Best Brazilian Roots Music Album, with Fé na Festa.
