Progressions, a part of MYSO’s innovative Community Partnership Programs, is an immersive string training program, which provides private instruction and orchestral training in violin, viola, cello and bass to 3rd and 4th grade students who have limited musical experience and live in or attend a school in the City of Milwaukee.

Young Violists (2012)Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra

Progressions was founded in 2003, as we sought to expand the opportunity for music education to City of Milwaukee students who often faced barriers of access and equity.

It Takes a Village
The success of Progressions depends on volunteers like Tony Lucas, who has been faithfully helping musicians since the program's founding over 25 years ago.

More than Music
Tony holds down a full-time job as Director of Engineering and Operations, but he still makes time to volunteer three times each week to help the kids with music and social skills development.
