Whitehall Technology Park is home to Metalmorphosis.

At 31 feet high and weighing in at a whopping 14 tons, David Cerny’s Metalmorphosis is hard to miss.

The multisegmented head consists of 40 steel pieces grouped into seven parts which independently rotate, creating surreal and abstract shapes and images.

But that’s not all: The mirrored sculpture also includes a mouth that spits water into a surrounding fountain.

Located in Uptown, standing 17 feet tall and sitting at 1,400 pounds is the Firebird. This sculpture has become a signature landmark in the Queen City.

Artist Niki de Saint Phalle created the sculpture locals lovingly refer to as "The Disco Chicken."

Made up of over 7,500 pieces of mirrored and colored glass, this statue is one of the most photographed spots in the city and shines bright day or night.

The Firebird’s proper name – titled "Le Grand Oiseau de Feu Sur l’Arche" or "The Large Bird of Fire on the Arch" – draws in visitors from all over the world.

La Cascade is a quirky mashup of found artifacts, colored metal and flashing lights and was crafted by Swiss artist, Jean Tinguely.

All of these pieces are held together by a network of pulleys and motors that whir and hum as they power into motion.

II Grande Disco – also known as the Great Disc in Italian – is a massive bronze wheel weighing 6 tons and spanning 15 feet in diameter.

The bronze disc has what looks like a map of the city bursting from its center. This is to commemorate Mecklenburg’s Declaration of Independence from England.
