Two endangered queens in the Araucaria Forest

Two species that we are working to reduce the risk of extinction.

The heroes of this story live in this forest

The Araucaria Forest historically dominated the landscape of southern Brazil, but today the current cover is estimated at less than 1% of remnants in good conservation status. This severe fragmentation raises the risk of extinction for several species.

Telling a little bit of the story of two great trees

Of the many endangered species in the Araucaria Forest, we have the Ocotea odorifera and Cedrela fissillis, which stand out for forming large individuals that once dominated the dossel of a large forest, which today is reduced with less than 1% of its territory well preserved.

Cinnamon sassafras

Ocotea odorífera
- Brazil endemic species;
- The extraction of its oil and good quality wood for use in civil construction makes it a very exploited species;
- Its natural regeneration is difficult due to reproduction and dispersion factors.

Chauá Nursery

In our nursery we cultivate more than 200 species of natural grasslands and Araucaria Forest, trying the best genetic diversity and resistant seedlings for planting. Among them Ocotea odorifera.
