Who was Marianne Peretti

French-Brazilian artist Marianne Peretti (1927-2022) was a painter, sculptor and draughtswoman. The only woman to be part of architect Oscar Niemeyer's team of collaborators on the construction of Brasília, she was known as the master of stained glass.

In the capital of the Republic, Marianne's mark is registered in several places: the Senate and the Federal Chamber, the Juscelino Kubitschek Memorial, the Jaburu Palace, the National Theater, the Superior Court of Justice, the Pantheon of Liberty and Brasília Cathedral.

Marianne Peretti also made a name for herself in other countries. For example, her sculptures of birds in Havre, France, and the stained glass windows in Mondadori, Milan, Italy.

Two of Marianne's works are part of the Senate Museum's collection. One is the panel Alumbramento, from 1978, which covers a large part of the Salão Branco (Chapel Room).

The panel The Lake and the Fishes, on permanent display in the Salão Nobre, where the Senate Museum is located, is also hers.

Other works by the artist are part of the Chamber of Deputies' collection. The Pasiphae panel, from 1977, is made of handmade glass and frosted white and brown crystal. Pasiphae, in Greek mythology, is the name of the daughter of the sun-god Helios, wife of King Minos and mother of the Minotaur.

PASIPHAE

The panel is made from handmade glass and frosted white and brown crystal. The title refers to Greek mythology, as Pasiphae is the name of the daughter of the sun god Helios, wife of King Minos and mother of the Minotaur.

In the 1970s, Oscar Niemeyer drew up a decoration project for the Green Room and the Noble Room, which included works of art and furniture, to meet the proposal of delimiting the spaces and enhancing the environments.

In the 1977 panel Araguaia, Marianne used a technique that seems to give movement to the geometric figures placed on the glass, resembling the course of a river.
