MAK – Austrian Museum of Applied Arts
In 1931, art historian and Klimt expert Max Eisler published the portfolio Gustav Klimt – Die Nachlese [Gustav Kimt—a Review] through the publishing house of the Österreichische Staatsdruckerei.
Of the 800 copies in total a limited collector’s edition was released (numbers I to XXX of the German edition) the copies of which are gold-leather bound, the remaining volumes of plates were published as portfolios.
The French and English editions each included 20 copies of the limited collector’s edition. Each of the overall 30 elaborately designed photogravures displayed the title of the work as well as the name of the owner. This would turn out to be important information for provenance research after 1945.
