On the ground, the arroyos create a diverse ecosystem full of unique plants and animals in West Texas.

These West Texas tree species found growing in arroyos have evolved some of these adaptations mentioned: smaller leaves, contrasting colors on upper and lower leaf surfaces, and sharp armory.
