The late Noel Tunks was an Australian artist who lived, worked and created at his rural property in Avoca, near Maryborough, Victoria. 

This featured work depicts a typical local landscape and reflects the impact of settlement history on this region's land and vegetation.

Lars Stenberg grew up in a coastal region of Scotland that was part rural idyll and part coal mining and heavy industry. He later moved to Australia and is now based in Central Victoria.

As a result of living with these contrasts, his work "is concerned with the environments we live in: how we shape them and how they shape us". 

Stenberg is known for his known for his colourful landscape paintings.

Philip Adams lives and paints at Bung Bong, Central Victoria. He taught art for many years whilst pursuing his own career as a landscape artist.

He explains," What I want to capture is the excitement of exploring a new landscape. Everything is to be discovered, the senses are sharpened, and each vista is full of untold mysteries and beauties."

In 2019, this painting was commissioned for the permanent collection of Central Goldfields Art Gallery. Chewton artist Jeff Makin explored the landscape near Maryborough and was drawn to the ruins of Grand Duke Mine in Timor.

From 1869 to 1896, this mine produced some 216,000 ounces of gold. In December 1883, a tragic accident at the mine claimed the lives of four men.
