This is Atlanta's Food Scene
Atlanta’s food community is like no other and is constantly evolving. It is a population brimming with creativity, self-expression and a spirit of cooperation where big-name chefs help nurture new talent and established restaurants, on their days off, host pop-ups for up-and-comers.
Atlanta is in the South but it is not Southern
Atlanta is a major metropolitan city replete with skyscrapers yet it is also the City in the Forest with parks, trails and, importantly, urban farms supplying local restaurants. But, above all, Atlanta is a food city.
Innovation
Atlanta chefs have broken free from the Southern meat-and-three stereotypes, yet they are comfortable with their Southern roots and local ingredients. They are proud to reflect this in their interpretations of world cuisines.
Diversity
Atlanta’s large international communities ensure there are many well-supported choices of cuisine to choose from. A trip up the iconic Buford Highway quickly demonstrates the depth and breadth of Atlanta’s culturally diverse food scene, with over 26 nations represented.
Locally-Sourced Food
Atlanta enjoys an abundance of small farms located within and around the metro area that supply the restaurant community, often working closely with chefs to plant what they need for their menus.
Neighborhood Spots
The last decade has seen unparalleled development of restaurants in residential neighborhoods all in close proximity to Downtown. A foodie is spoilt for choice and will have to compete with the locals for a seat at the table of neighborhood restaurants.
Food Halls
Atlanta's many food halls provide an easy opportunity to sample and taste from a wide array of cuisines. Ponce City Market and Krog Street Market are the most well known, among many others. But the Municipal Curb Market aka "Sweet Auburn Curb Market" dates back to 1924.
Taste the Difference
Unpretentious, innovative and fearless, Atlanta's dining scene continues to rise.
