A Modern Day Performance

A breakdown of our performance of Shostakovich 7

Conducted by Marin Alsop, the concert  opens with the Fanfare for the Common Man by Aaron Copland. A short fanfare written for percussion and brass.

During the interval a very large symphony orchestra of 107 musicians assemble on stage, which includes seven percussion players and two brass sections either side of the stage.

The whole concert is just under 90 minutes, with the symphony comprising of four movements: 
Movement 1. Allegretto - fairly brisk speed. 
Movement 2. Moderato (poco allegretto) – moderate to brisk. 
Movement 3. Adagio – slow. 
Movement 4. Allegro non troppo – fast but not too much.
