This historical site was renovated and turned into a museum telling history of the railway station itself, the development of Thai medicine, and social lifestyle studies.

The Antique Building

The main building was originally designed in 1950 with post-war architecture with a clock tower uniquely displayed. This building has been registered as a National Monument in 2001.

Designed by a Railway Department architect named Professor H.S.H. Prince Vodhayakorn Voravarn, the building was presumably influenced by Victorian brick and terracotta concepts, as well as post and lintel structures, with its emphasis on the use of plain and simple materials.

His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej (King Rama IX) kindly named this museum ‘Siriraj Bimuksthan’.  

The museum is situated in an area that once belonged to Krom Phra Rajawang Bavorn Sthanbimuk, a high-ranking Prince who was third in command to King Rama I.

Reception Hall

Visitors experience the atmosphere of travelling by train when you enter the hall, formerly the ticket office of Thonburi Station – the starting point of the railway line to the South.

Building 1 mainly displays the history of the area around the hospital.

Siriraj Khattiya Phiman

A place to pay homage to the kings (King Rama V and King Rama IX) and senior members of the royal family whose benevolent and gracious support of Siriraj Hospital and the medical school has enabled the country to make impressive progress in medical service and training.

Sthanbimuk Mongkolkhet

The royal biography of Krom Phra Rajawang Bovorn Sthanbimuk is presented here through light and sound on mural painting and a diorama entitled Phra Sri Muang as well as embroidery Chinese painting of major characters in Xi-Han.

Wang Lang Fort Foundation
Situated outside Sthanbimuk Mongkolkhet room is Wang Lang Fort Foundation. This is archaeological evidence from the remains of the Phra Rajawang Bovorn Sthanbimuk (Wang Lang Palace); although not much can be seen now, every brick here can narrate the over-200-year-old history and social life of the past.

Ancient Weapons
Going back into the main building, there are various kinds of weapon from many periods and localities that the Medical Faculty received from the “Seniwongse” royal family, descendents of Krom Phra Rajawang Bovorn Sthanbimuk.

Khamanakhom Banhan (Theater Room)

The last part of the 1st floor is a fantastic film making visitors feel as if they had been riding the southern line train through the past, from the beginning of the station’s construction as gateway to country’s economic expansion, right up to World War II and onto the present.

Siriraj Buranpavatti    
On the 2nd floor, the origin of Siriraj Hospital, Siam’s first public hospital and the first medical school in Thailand to employ modern medical science curriculum is exhibited. This ‘classroom’ has always been a dream destination for high school students whose wish to get a glimpse of a doctor and health team’s lives.

Syamrath Vaidyasastra
Solution to “Good Health” 
Apart from Modern Medicine in Thailand, there is also a exhibition that invites visitors to unveil the subtlety, yet not mystery, of Thai traditional medicine. Learning basic concepts will help absolutely in looking after one’s health. The concept underlying Thai traditional medicine is that the body consists of four elements and this is no different from that of modern medicine for which the body is mainly a combination of flesh and bones.

Osothwattana Dispensary

Here visitors learn the miraculous properties of medicine and Thai herbs used in curing diseases and the various instruments used in the traditional Thai medicine shop and the development of Thai Pharmacy.

Siriraj Surgery Museum
On the 2nd floor of building 2, there is "Siriraj Surgery Museum", the newest museum. Going back to the origin of surgery in Thailand over a hundred years ago, you will be fascinated with extraordinary specimens from various surgical divisions. In this exhibition, you can also experience the surgical procedures from past to present which the robotic assisted system is applied with augmented reality techniques.

The Ancient Barge

At building 3, there is the ancient barge 24 meters in length that had been buried for over a hundred years. It is regarded as the biggest wooden barge ever to be excavated from freshwater area in Thailand, and one of the most valuable archaeological finds of the country.

Bangkok Noi Way of Life 
Puppet show theater, poetry, shops and community hall for public and religious activities exhibited in building 3 reflect the art, culture, tradition and local wisdom that have molded the lives of people on both sides of the canal together.

At the front of the museum is situated a traditional Thai-style pavilion called "Siamindra Sirirachanusoranee", housing the statues of King Rama V the Great and HRH Prince Siriraj Kakuttaphan whose auspicious name and his legacy were granted to Thailand's first public hospital.
