UOB's Art Collection
Since its establishment in 1988, the University of Balamand has placed a strong emphasis on arts and culture. Over the course of three decades, the university has hosted a number of exhibitions for remarkable Lebanese artists who were born between 1930 and 1985.

The exhibitions addressed different artworks, including paintings, sculptures, and photographs.
Some of the artists donated a number of their artifacts to the university that are now displayed in various locations on campus.

Alwan, a virtual exhibition
Being remarkable assets of the Lebanese cultural heritage, the university developed its first virtual exhibition, Alwan, to present a number of the paintings from the UOB's art collection.
The purpose of the exhibition is to preserve the collection and give it a wider exposure.

Alwan is an Arabic word (ألوان) meaning colors.
It holds the meaning of "diversity" and "richness". The exhibition's name was inspired by that diversity and richness reflected by the paintings' various artistic styles, colors, and themes.

Since the paintings are distributed in different locations at the university and some are of huge size, it isn’t feasible to gather them in one place. Therefore, a virtual space was developed in order to host the collection.

The virtual space is designed extending from a real existing building, Nahyan building, at the university's campus.
