The sketches for theatrical costumes are mostly anonymous. Only in the second half of the nineteenth century, the figure of the costume designer acquires a stylistic identity recognized by contemporaries and the first signatures appear on the works. Among all the figure of the Piedmontese artist Caramba (Luigi Sapelli) emerges, an eclectic and dominant presence for the history of the Scala.

The Museum preserves a conspicuous collection of his works. Among other costume designers we remember Alfredo Edel (favorite of Casa Ricordi and Giuseppe Verdi), Attilio Comelli and Giuseppe Palanti.
