The Manitoba Crafts Museum and Library (MCML) and Ross House Museum gathered a team of Indigenous artists, historians and Elders to conduct research on the artifacts.
Viewing sessions were held at C2 Centre for Craft which allowed Indigenous peoples to examine the works up closely and provide knowledge about the crafts.

The exhibit comprises of pre-1900 artifacts from across Manitoba and neighboring provinces, representing the Ininiwak, Anishinaabe, Nehiyawak, Nakota, Dakota, Dene, Métis, and more.

Acting as a bridge from the past to now, the exhibition emphasizes how Indigenous craft is a continuing practice and an essential part of cultural identity. Contemporary pieces by Indigenous artists were displayed alongside the historical and traditional pieces.

It was a successful project that brought together members of the Indigenous community, craft artists and enthusiasts, and people from different backgrounds to learn and celebrate historical and traditional Indigenous craft in Manitoba.

“We hope that by sharing this collection of our grandmother's pieces through this exhibit, it will encourage the sharing of memories and connections to our families and the land itself throughout our communities,” said Project Manager Margaret Firlotte.
