Between the past and the future
In the collection of short prose entitled Posthumous Papers of a Living author, Robert Musil drafts the role of the paintwriter, “who stands for a painter as the literary man stands for a writer”, claiming that painters and writers tend to appear to belong to the past or to the future, while the paintwriters and the literary men pertain to the sole dimension of the present. The appeal of the paintwriters' works soon vanishes, unlike the painters, the real artists, who survive the fleeting fashions. And this is what Renzo Margonari, painter, artist and first director of the MAM, has taught.
