Fusion Art + Technology = Engraving

Technical evolution is breaking the classical frontiers in the creation of the recorded image and any image created from a computer file. Today, therefore, it is complex to predict which of these systems will last and which will go down in history.

What does seem clear is that engraving is facing a tremendous challenge since if it does not conform to the new media it will soon be pushed aside as an archaeological remains, and on the other hand, if it adapts to its corresponding era, it is likely losing its particular idiosyncrasy.

The most important reflection that each one should make, perhaps, has to be based on accepting the radical turnaround that is taking place in the current print and weighing whether the value of a work of art depends on the qualities of the medium by which it is carried out, or if, on the contrary, it is based on their creative capacity.

Computer generated prints and many studios and printers are engaged in production serving artists around the world. Some adopt exclusively digital postures, others have devised hybrid techniques combining these media with traditional ones, transforming and revitalizing them, while a third group continues to defend the status of artisanal engraving.

The income of the artist of the 21st century will arise from the public circulation of his immaterial work (...) It is worth recognizing a spirit of activism that concentrates its efforts precisely on the development of such «communities of media producers. In this case it is about «web communities», which meet and exchange their productions generating their own public interaction devices, their own «media»
