The unique early 14th-15 century historical heritage

At the beginning of 14th century, thanks to Grand Duke Gediminas, Vilnius became the capital of Lithuania. The existing Round Defense Tower was rebuilt into the “pre-Gothic” residential/representative Octagonal Tower. This tower became the residence of the Grand Duke.

The hypocaust heating system was installed on the first floor. It's purpose was to heat the entire tower and the premises of the ruler. The passage from the first floor to the second was not installed due to safety reasons.
