HABITANTES | Memory

HABITANTES is a project that explores the idea of space, memory and social identity through a selection of artists who have a special bond with the city of Bayamón.

The exhibition proposes a look at the relationship of this community of artists with the place where they were born, raised or where they have carried out their lives.

Habitante (Inhabitant) is the term conferred to designate the people who have been part of the population of a particular place.

The exhibition is made up of forty-three artists whose works, in a multiplicity of media and aesthetics, trace a look at what it would be worth to define the being that inhabits something. 

The second theme explored in the HABITANTES exhibition is memory. This is presented through the graphic tradition of word and language, as well as through the use of color and scenes that reference past experiences.

"Cowboys there!!!! In Bayamón I lived through all kinds of things.... "

"The first thing that comes to mind is the ostrich in Central Park, concerts by Madonna, Cypress Hill, Fugees, National Salsa Day, Don Chezina in the Virgilio Dávila housing development and the Mediocre Punks in Río Hondo."

"Oh and the people yelling "defense, defense" at the Ruben Rodriguez Coliseum while I was eating some nachos with cheese."

"My relationship with the city of Bayamón goes back more than 24 years. During my studies at the Escuela de Artes Plásticas, I lived in Barrio Cerro Gordo and later in Urbanización Villa España".

"Between all these places I transited a little more than 24 years. My formation as a plastic artist took place while I was living in this city".
