Jose Alberto "El Canario" is a renowned Dominican salsa singer. He is known for his powerful and distinct voice, as well as his contributions to the world of salsa music. With a career spanning several decades, Jose Alberto has left an indelible mark on the genre.

From The Beginning

Born on December 22, 1958, in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, Jose Alberto began his musical journey at a young age.

He joined the celebrated Dominican group Los Sabrosos del Merengue before moving to Puerto Rico, where he became a part of the group Tipica '73. From there he started working alongside some of the great salsa artists from today.

Dedication and Consistency

In the midst of Jose developing his artistry, he found his niche. Through consistency and persistence, He caught the attention of another fellow Dominican; Johnny Pacheco along with other major artists whom helped him launch his career in NYC.

Jose Alberto's nickname "El Canario" (The Canary) reflects his vocal prowess and the richness of his voice, along with his ability to sound like a flute when he takes solos. He gained widespread recognition as a lead vocalist for the renowned orchestra Típica '73.
