This is Quilt 005 of 042 in the UK AIDS Memorial Quilt collection, created during the late 1980's and early 1990's before there was effective treatment for people living with HIV.

Freddie Mercury
Freddie Mercury was the talisman of the UK rock group Queen. Flamboyant and a genuine showman, known the world over and loved by many. Died 24th November 1991
John MacIntyre
John's panel was made by friends Alistair and Olive.
John was well known on the global gay Scene, hence why so many different cities are listed on the left of the panel
John was famous for his love of a checked shirt, faded denim and his precious leather waistcoat. These have all been included in the design of the panel.

This poem ends with the couplet: "To meet once again we must first say goodbye: Friendships are eternal. They can never die!"

Andrew Carter
Andrew was from Perth, western Australia. Read more about him below. Andrew died at home in Perth, 20th June 1991.
This letter describes Andrew's work promoting the AIDS Quilt project globally and he received the Medal of the Order of Australia for promoting community awareness of HIV/AIDS.

This panel was made by Fred Hepple for his friends from the Aidsline West Midlands who had died. Towards the end of Fred's life he would wrap the quilt around himself
This letter remembers Fred and mentions his love of nature, with his favourite flower being a rose, which is depicted on the Quilt above.
