The Northern Quarter is Manchester’s most characterful, independent district. The area was once home to busy textiles warehouses and factories. Now, the red brick buildings with New York-style fire escapes are regularly used in film sets, and the streets are bursting with independent shops, bars and graffiti artworks to explore.

Places such as Afflecks is one of the cities oldest retail spots, opening its doors in 1982 and continues to support a number of local businesses inside its walls. Lying in the heart of the Northern Quarter, Afflecks is one of the most celebrated and unique spots in Manchester and attracts visitors globally.

It is also known for being a hub for indie music, due to it’s impressive roster of bands that have, at some point, called the city home. With the likes of The Hollies, Stone Roses, Joy Division, Happy Monday and Oasis which have all paved the way for future generations. Music continue to be at the heart of Manchester’s culture with venues such as Band on the Wall and Factory Records.
