A chrome is a type of lettering filled in with silver-coloured aerosol paint – this makes it easier to paint on any type of medium than it is with coloured spray paint, which does not show up properly on certain types of wall. Quicker to execute than a work of graffiti, this type of lettering can often be found in the street, along railway lines or in subway tunnels. Although priority is often given to readability, chromes can sometimes be as stylised as a work of graffiti. Many examples of chromes can be found on both the inside and the outside of the buildings in Pantin, because its brick and concrete surfaces lend themselves perfectly to this form of lettering.
