The scene represents a confiscation by a bailiff of the new Italian Kingdom
The bailiff enters in a patriot's home
very embarassed by the poverty of the place
Assisted by his sons, the debtor is dying
and he cannot pay his debts
He was an old republican patriot
follower of Giuseppe Mazzini
The whole scene reveals the drama of their poverty
and there is nothing to confiscate!
