More than 1.6 million people visit the Alamo every year, making it the #1 tourist destination in Texas. In 1960, the Alamo was designated a United States National Historic Landmark, and in 2015, it became part of the Lone Star State's only UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Alamo Master Plan

A master plan is underway to preserve the 300-year-old Church and Long Barrack, recapture the original mission site and battlefield footprint, and create a world-class Visitor Center and Museum to tell the full history of the site.

In the summer of 2014, British rock star and prolific Alamo artifact collector Phil Collins generously donated his priceless collection to the Texas General Land Office, the guardian of the Alamo.

The Ralston Family Collections Center

In March 2023, the Ralston Family Collections Center opened with 10,000 square feet of new gallery space featuring more than 500 artifacts - many on display for the first time, including items from the Phil Collins Collection.

18-Pounder Losoya House

This replica 18-Pounder Cannon went on display in spring 2021. It provides an up-close encounter with a full-size replica of the cannon the Alamo Defenders fired in 1836 to tell Santa Anna that they would remain defiant and never surrender.

Palisade CannonThe Alamo

The Alamo Palisade

The Alamo Palisade was unveiled in late 2021. It features an interpretation of the fence-like fortification used during the Battle of the Alamo.  It is believed that David Crockett fought at the Palisade.

Mission Gate & Lunette

The Mission Gate & Lunette exhibit is scheduled to open in 2024. It is an interpretation of the Southern section of the Alamo mission, later converted into a fort. (Conceptual rendering; not final.)

The Visitors Center & Museum

The Alamo Visitors Center & Museum is scheduled to open in 2027. It will tell the full 300-year history of the Alamo. Topics will include the area’s indigenous Native American groups, the 1836 Battle, & the area’s link to the modern-day Civil Rights Movement. Rendering not final.
