The Rio Port Region has always been a place marked by meetings and a mix of rhythms, accents and lifestyles. The part of the city from the Santo Cristo Neighborhood to Mauá Square was reconnected to Guanabara Bay, with the overthrow of the Elevado da Perimetral. With respect to the shameful past - the memory of being the main port for slave trade of the Americas - artistic and cultural events gained more visibility. The Port is both exchange and coexistence. It is culture and art.

Art that fills the gaps...
The old sweets factory Bhering in Santo Cristo houses a collective of multimedia artists, architects, designers, stylists, photographers, painters, sculptors, restorers, editors, chefs and other professionals dedicated to the creative arts. After two decades of abandonment, the shed became a space of cultural effervescence. Nowadays, there are 80 rooms rented for various uses. The Bhering building is a historical and cultural heritage and now it belongs to the city.

Preserving the memory
Jose Bonifacio - a Cultural Center in Pedro Ernesto Street, was inaugurated by D. Pedro II in 1877 as the first public school in Latin America. With 2,356 m², three floors and 18 rooms of diverse uses, the center was reopened, fully renovated in November 2013, after the restoration work of Porto Maravilha Cultural program.

Make space for the party!
From Santo Cristo neighborhood to Mauá Square, the Port Region was a scene of 30 parades in 2016 Carnival, which drew a crowd of 50,000 people. To refresh the party in the sultry summer, a water tank truck was brought to the Mauá Escravos parade. Many associations with the past, driven by redevelopment of the area, has recurred in the last four years.
