The Energising Sarang
Sarangs are a family of ragas that can put us to rest. Vidushi Saraswati Rane, the daughter of Ustad Abdul Karim Khan, the doyen of the Kirana Gharana maestro sings the raga. Her rendition can energise you even on a lazy afternoon.

Is it Miyan Ki Sarang?
The only music of Sardarbai Kardgekar that has survived is this Sarang. She was the disciple of Pt. Nivruttibuwa Sarnaik. One can only imagine her through her voice on a relaxed afternoon. Also, Sarang and Miyan-Ki-Sarang are the same.

Song of Rain and Sarang
Combining moods and experiences is done a lot in raga music. Here is Mallikarjun Mansur of the Jaipur Gharana singing a light classical composition about the rains in Raga Sarang.

Many Types of Sarang
There are many faces in this family of Sarangs which communicate experiences very different from each other. Here is one such called Raga Gaud Sarang. You heard this before in the exhibition by Malini Rajurkar. Do you recall? Here is the same raga rendering by Azambai.

Yet another Gaud Sarang
Umrao Bundu Khan was the son and disciple of Sarangi maestro Ustad Bundu Khan. He received training in vocal music from his maternal uncle and legendary Delhi Gharana musician Ustad Chand Khan Sahib. He was adept at both vocal music and sarangi.

Hindol Sarang
When two unrelated ragas come together they create interesting combinations which are unheard before. Here is one such raga that is the combination of Raga Hindol and Raga Sarang sung by the doyen of Patiala Gharana Ustad Bade Gulam Ali Khan.

Maru Sarang
Like Maru Bihag, Maru Sarang seems to be a slightly gentle version of the parent Raga. Rendered by Mallika-Ae-Mausiki, Roshanara Begun, it becomes gentler.

Madhmad Sarang
There is a heavy headedness in Madhmad and maybe it can be attributed to the use of the note madhyam in this raga.
You may have heard only long recording of Ragas but have you heard the shortest ones? If not, here is an exhibition for you!
