Welcome to the Sanctuary of Christ the Redeemer. Situated in the Tijuca National Park in Rio de Janeiro, it is the first open-air sanctuary in the world. It's a symbol of the Christian tradition and is a sacred space.

Christ the Redeemer is one of the New 7 Wonders of the World. It sits on the mountain of Corcovado, which is 710 meters high, and offers a panoramic view of the city from the top.

From the sanctuary, you can see the city's other iconic landmarks, including Sugarloaf Mountain, Guanabara Bay, Río-Niterói Bridge, and Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon, among others.

The Tijuca National Park has a mountainous and rugged terrain that contrasts with the green of the forest and the sea. The mountain rocks are also very old – aged approximately 1.7 billion years!

In the distance here you can see the famous Maracanã Stadium, which was opened in 1950 for the World Cup. The stadium has hosted some of the world's best football players, including the fist time Pelé played for Brazil in 1957!
