Why is it crucial to 3D scan monuments?

If the monument is destroyed, for example, by a direct missile hit, the digital copy can be used to help restore it.

To build a shelter

You can also use the 3D model of the monument to model its protective shelter. This is exactly what balbek bureau did with the Monument to the founders of Kyiv while developing the RE:Ukraine Monuments system.

To create a basic 3D scan, you need a mobile app (e.g., Polycam). For an advanced photogram, follow the instructions below

How-to

1. Position the camera so that the entire monument is in the frame.

2. Make as many photographs as possible of the object from various angles and at various distances. After photographing it, make at least one measurement with a ruler or tape measure of a part of the object or one of its sides for scaling purposes.

3. Cut out the image of the object along its contour, as seen in the illustration. Save the image in png format.
