The Great Mosque of Djenné is one of the largest monuments in the world built from blocks of earth and is considered a major work of the Sudano-Sahelian architectural style. Located in the heart of the town of Djenné, the great mosque was built in 1907.

It is 20 meters high and has a square base. The roof is supported by 100 pillars; it has 104 ventilation holes and 36 doors.

The mosque was restored by the Aga Khan Trust for Culture in 2010–2012 and is in a good state of conservation, despite some minor damage identified on certain sections of its structure.
