The Philatelic World Celebrates Mahatma Gandhi In Asia Pacific

Various countries in the Asia Pacific regions like Australia, Oceania, the Middle East and others have celebrated Mahatma Gandhi & his philosophy by releasing stamps in his honor.

Mahatma Gandhi is one of history's most inspirational figures. Most countries give tribute by issuing postal stamps of him in the philatelic world. Different countries from the Asia pacific region and middle east Asia have issued various stamps. Sharjah, UAE issued his portrait image stamps to celebrate the birth centenary.

Afghanistan issued a stamp with a picture of Mahatma Gandhi along with a spinning wheel and a quote by him saying, "Hate the sin, love the sinner.”

To commemorate 50 years of India's Independence in 1997, International Exhibition was named Indepex-97 and was held in New Delhi. Bhutan issued a stamp of Mahatma Gandhi image with Sabarmati Ashram in the background.

The Federated States of Micronesia issued Indipex 2011 sheetlet of 4 stamps of Mahatma Gandhi.

It has a quote by Gandhi, An eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind. It depicts him seated, going through documents.

On September 16, 1932, in his cell at Yerwada Jail in Pune, Gandhi did a hunger strike in protest of the British government's decision to separate India's electoral system by cast.
