Vhils Alexandro Farto was born in 1987 in Portugal. He studied at at the University of the Arts in London, Central Saint Martins, and Byam Shaw Fine Art Skills and Practices.
Currently he lives and works in London and Lisbon
Most popular works of his are relief portraits.
He works with ordinary people photographs taken by himself or his team.
He can be characterised by using a minimal amount of paint in his works (just for creating the outline).
He replaced paint with pneumatic drills chisels and heavy equipment which he uses to carve people’s images in the walls. But also he experiments with bleach and etching acid which he puts on the walls. His technique and tools evolves as his work progresses
His carer accelerated when Banksy created his work next to Vhils’ work during Cans Festival in London in 2008, later he gained additional space to create his works.
