A Route 66 gem frozen in time

Route 66 has evolved from a new highway to a road carrying tired migrants hopeful for a better life across the country. In its later years and most iconic form, it’s been known as a tourist destination... but even this tourism has evolved.

Stand on the edge of a cosmic collision

Just a short detour off Route 66 near Winslow, Meteor Crater offers an unforgettable glimpse into Earth’s explosive past. Formed around 50,000 years ago by a massive meteorite impact, this nearly mile-wide crater is the best-preserved of its kind anywhere in the world.

The site has fascinated generations of Route 66 travelers. Visitors today can explore museum exhibits, walk along the crater rim, and even stand at the edge of the impact site that once shook the high desert.

Standin’ on the corner – and in the spotlight

Winslow is home to many tourist draws, including a 9/11 memorial, the Hopi cultural center, and several state parks. However, the most notable attraction in Winslow is Standin’ on the Corner Park, inspired by the line from the Eagles’ hit song “Take it Easy.”

Such a fine sight to see

At Standin' on the Corner Park, there's a bronze statue of song writer Jackson Browne, murals depicting the song, and even a flatbed Ford. The park was laid out in 1999 to build up local tourism and create a renaissance for the city. Today, it's Winslow's most famous attraction.
