Young Spanish Nobleman (around 1631) by Diego Rodríguez de Silva y VelázquezOriginal Source: Object in the Online-Collection of the Pinakotheken

An unidentified young man is shown in the dress of the Spanish Court at the time.

His alert look is directed at the viewer.

His right hand rests on his hip with his arm bent.

The painter has executed individual areas - like the hands and parts of the collar - using only a few, skillfully placed brushstrokes but not elaborated on them.

It can be assumed that these are an early indication of the ‚non finito‘ aesthetic that is especially evident in Velazquez's work from the 1640s onwards.
