Cüirtopia: Soft Crash is a fictional story of a group of queer travelers who leave home in search of Cüirtopia: an archipelago where its inhabitants are rumored to be free from imposed norms of gender and sexuality.

Aboard a sailboat and two floating boats, the group of migrants embark on a years-long journey to reach the waters of the Caribbean.

As a project, Cüirtopia exists through several platforms: an interactive web-based map of LGBTQ+ spaces in Puerto Rico; a radio program and podcast; architecture courses; various films, and this Live Workshop. Regner Ramos is committed to re-imagining how Caribbean territories, spaces, and buildings can be represented through a postcolonial and queer lens.

The physical location of the MAC in relation to a queer urban circuit in Santurce positions the building as an alternative safe space for queer modes of spatial appropriation, cultural production, and artistic imagination.

Instead of using this building as an empty backdrop for the project, Cüirtopia: Soft Crash inscribes the MAC in its own story.

Within the framework of the Live Workshop program, the exhibition will feature a series of participatory creation workshops that will gradually modify the show and will be accompanied by guided tours of the galleries and the Santurce neighborhood.

The exhibition thus narrates the journey, research, film records, cartographies, and characters that are part of this forced, but desired landing.
