The crucifixion of Jesus Christ is obviously a very iconic image. A depiction of this – not just the cross itself, but Jesus on the cross – is by rule, displayed in every single Roman Catholic Church in the world. The images chosen here show a myriad of choices: some artists chose to emphasize the pain and suffering, others chose to create hopeful stylized depictions to foreshadow the resurrection, and others managed to do both.
