The Metropolitan Museum of Art, also known as "The Met" is located in New York City.  Founded in 1870, the museum officially opened in 1872.  It is the largest art museum in the United States and one of the ten largest in the world.  The museum contains significant art collections, and its permanent collection includes more than 2 million art works! This gallery only contains a few of those million works of art.
