This gallery is focused on the ancient Japanese warrior, the Samurai. In this gallery you will find ink paintings of different samurai. Included are ink portraits of famous samurai, ink paintings of the life of samurai, and illustrations of samurai during battle. This gallery only contains ink paintings from Japan.

This is a painting done with ink on a woodblock print and it is of a trusted samurai, Nakamura Kansuke Masatatsu. It is apart of a series of portraits of loyal and righteous samurai who ended up becoming ronin after their lord was killed and the paintings are by the artist Utagawa Kuniyoshi. The samurai is shown with one of his swords drawn blocking a bowl full of ashes that was thrown at him.

This is a woodblock print done with ink and color on paper. This painting shows a battle in Kumamoto, Japan on the Ansei Bridge during the Meiji era. It shows several different samurai going into battle on the bridge. It also shows some warriors with guns and a commander on horseback telling the warriors to attack. The samurai are attacking with swords and guns from land and water.
